REVIEW
“The soprano Nicole Chan presented, together with the guitarist Daniel Acosta, a program which ranged in period from the Baroque era to music written by a living composer. First the aria “Che si può fare” by the female baroque composer Barbara Strozzi. Strozzi was a singer herself, and she was one of the most prolific composers of the Baroque era. This aria is probably more correctly a small cantata with inserted recitatives. Beautiful and interesting music, sung and played with great enthusiasm by Nicole and Daniel.
And then more music by a female composer, namely Scottish Thea Musgrave’s “Five Love Songs” to English Renaissance texts. Quite complicated music, which makes great demands on the two performers, but keep me safe, where they delivered with great conviction. Nicole’s beautiful soprano seems to fit like a glove for baroque music as well as new music. She is a cool little soprano. No one noticed that the night before she fell on her bike and hurt herself badly. Well done.”
